Welcome Note

Welcome to MUWCI’s website! I hope these pages will capture your imagination and give you some insights into this fascinating school. Set in the splendor of one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, this area of outstanding natural beauty is home to an exceptional international community.

We are committed to a vision of education which guides and inspires us. It is a vision which challenges young people to reach their potential and to become, in the words of our mission statement, “agents of change” in the world.

It provides the opportunity for highly motivated young people from diverse backgrounds to transcend the boundaries of race, religion, ethnicity, class, caste, gender and nationality and to develop a critical consciousness of the issues and causes of division in our world.

As a United World College based in rural India we are uniquely located to span many of the divides which still dominate the 21st century – divides between east and west, rich and poor, creed, culture and race - an inspiring mix of opportunity and challenge. Over the years, MUWCI has touched the lives of young people from all corners of the globe and from all walks of life who have come to this place to live and learn together.

However, the stunning beauty of the Western Ghats is also home to poverty-stricken and fragile communities. Alongside an ambitious academic and extra-curricular program, our students are involved in numerous significant Community Interaction and Campus Service projects.

MUWCI is not an easy option – for the challenges are real and the expectations high. Students accepted here commit themselves to a demanding range of experiences – from high academic goals to some of the harsh realities of life in rural India. But this is also an immensely rewarding and fulfilling option. For young idealists excited by the possibility of change and motivated to act through personal example and courageous leadership there are real opportunities to make a difference.

Visitors to our campus discover the friendly and dynamic atmosphere which makes this such a remarkable place. There is an air of purposefulness here, a determination to succeed, to enjoy life, to enjoy each other's company – and, most importantly, to discover that there is far more in each of us than we think!
